Why You Should Be Wearing SPF Year-Round
Share
Rain or shine, wearing sunscreen is one of the best things you can do to protect your skin barrier from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Why? UV rays – which contain UVA and UVB light – can cause skin cancer, premature aging, and other skin problems.
Here’s how to make the most out of your sunscreen, and help prevent harmful UV rays from damaging your skin barrier.
Keep It Broad-Spectrum
Like our Daily Shield Tinted SPF 50, your sunscreen should always be broad-spectrum, which protects against two types of UV light – UVA and UVB rays.
UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin, and are commonly linked to premature skin aging, such as wrinkles and age spots. They may also play a role in the development of some types of skin cancer.
UVB cannot penetrate as deeply into the skin, but are typically responsible for sunburn. They are also linked to the development of some types of skin cancer, such as melanoma.
Support Your Skin Barrier
A healthy skin barrier helps you make the most of your sunscreen because it gives it a more durable, reliable surface area to bind to. Epionce products will help keep your skin barrier at its best. Daily Shield Tinted SPF 50 contains gentle, proven physical blockers such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to keep your barrier protected from both UVA and UVB rays.
Remember – UV Rays Cut Through Clouds
Whether the sky is clear or cloudy, it doesn’t matter if you’re at home, in the car, or at the office – research shows that up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate clouds. Although clouds may appear to block the sun, both UVA and UVB rays can reach and damage the skin and may be just as harmful as the rays on a bright, sunny day. This is especially true for UVA rays, which don’t always come with a warning sign.
Take Preventative Action Every 2 Hours
There are many products on the market that claim to prevent or slow down the effects of aging – however, SPF is one of the few that has been proven to prevent these signs of aging. Sun damage can be the leading cause of age spots, loss of elasticity and premature wrinkles so in addition to protecting the skin from sunburns, sunscreen offers the added bonus of anti-aging benefits. While aging can cause a natural loss of collagen, sun damage can speed up collagen loss at a higher rate.
A broad-spectrum sunscreen will help prevent these aging rays from wearing down your skin. Just remember that your sunscreen needs to be reapplied every two hours to make the most of it, especially after swimming and toweling off! With Daily Shield Tinted SPF 50, you won’t have to worry as much – our broad-spectrum sunscreen is highly water resistant for up to 80 minutes.
